Ben Wolverton, age 16, was in a tragic long-boarding accident on April 4th, 2013. He was in a coma for weeks. He is awake, but a lot still has to happen for him to recover from severe brain trauma, a cracked skull, broken pelvis, broken tail bone, burnt knees, bruised lungs, broken ear drums, road rash, and pneumonia.
Ben is the son of author David Farland, whose books have won multiple awards, and who is widely known as a mentor to many prominent authors, such as Brandon Sanderson, Stephenie Meyer, James Dashner, and Brandon Mull.
Due to circumstances beyond their control, Ben’s family has no insurance and his treatment has already exceeded $1,300,0000 and continues to climb.
PROTECT YOUR CHILDREN
Nobody should go through what Ben and his family have had to experience. David wrote One Good Fall to encourage children and their parents to always wear a helmet, because all that it takes is one good fall to end up in Ben’s condition.
To show how serious we are in sharing this information, we are giving the book away FOR FREE!! No obligation, we only ask that you share the need to wear a helmet and other protection to anybody who boards, bikes, skies, or any activity that could cause bodily harm–especially head trauma.
No, seriously. It’s free. Just click on your desired format here:
If you want a printed book, we can’t give those to you for free, but we can give them to you at the cost to have them printed and shipped.
If you would like to make a donation here, all of the money will be used to pay for Ben’s medical expenses.
OTHER BOOKS BY DAVID FARLAND
If you would like to help in some other way, David recommends two books: Nightingale and The Golden Queen. When you purchase them you are helping pay for Ben’s medical treatments.

Some people sing at night to drive back the darkness. Others sing to summon it. . . .

When Gallen O’Day is hired to as a bodyguard to escort a young woman through the woods to the forbidden ruins at Geata Na Chruinn, it seems like an ordinary job—but all too soon, he finds himself fleeing for his life from creatures that seem like escapees from a nightmare—the alien dronon, led by their golden queen. With his best friend, a genetically engineered talking bear named Orick, and his girlfriend Maggie, Gallen soon finds himself tangled in an interstellar war that he never knew existed, racing across a host of worlds, confronted by a future unlike any that he had ever imagined.
PRAISE FOR THE GOLDEN QUEEN
The Golden Queen has 4.7 stars on Amazon. Here are what some are saying about it:
“David Farland’s Golden Queen trilogy — The Golden Queen, Beyond the Gate, and Lords of the Seventh Swarm — is . . . the equivalent of Lord of the Rings in space. It begins small, as a seemingly insignificant character gets caught up in the affairs of dangerous, evil beings that threaten everything good about human life. Then with twists and turns that left me gasping, Farland launches us into space to do things that at the beginning of the book we couldn’t have dreamed of.”
–Orson Scott Card
“When you want to slap a character for her naive arrogance on one page and comfort her on the next, you know you’ve found a writer with a gift for characterization. . . . This is an enjoyable story. Recommended.”
“It’s a long, colorful book. There’s a pleasure, a richness, or a surprise on every page-sometimes all three. There’s immense scope to The Golden Queen, and a wonderful sense of presence. Any reader can simply plunge into this novel and be off to alien worlds and wonderful adventures.”
–Richard A. Lupoff
